Hinson Lecture Series Awards Presented to Satsuma High School Students University of Mobile President Dr. Mark Foley presented awards to three Satsuma High School students for outstanding essays on “The Importance of the First Amendment.” The awards were presented April 2 at the University of Mobile as part of the fourth annual Billy G. Hinson Lecture Series. Dr. Daniel Dreisbach, professor at American University in Washington, D.C., delivered a lecture on Thomas Jefferson and the “wall of separation.” Satsuma High School students in Advanced Placement and Advanced History classes submitted essays for the annual contest. Winners were: first place, Nick Maxime; second place, Anna White; and third place, Aaron Foster. The Billy G. Hinson Lecture Series was established by the University of Mobile College of Arts and Sciences in honor of Dr. Billy G. Hinson, who has been a professor of history at UM for 30 years. The lecture series is an annual event that focuses on various aspects of Southern history and politics.
