UM Announces New Faculty
for 2006-07 Academic Year

The University of Mobile welcomed seven new faculty members to the private Christian university for the start of the 2006-07 academic year. They are:

Debra Chancey
Debra Chancey of Spanish Fort, Ala., instructor in education, holds bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from the University of Mobile, as well as education administration certification from the University of South Alabama. Since 1981 she has taught in elementary schools in Baldwin, Clarke and Mobile counties.
Leo Denton
Leo Denton of Dauphin Island, assistant professor of computer information systems, holds a bachelor of arts in philosophy from Pontifical College Josephinum and a master’s in computer and information sciences from the University of South Alabama. He is currently in the dissertation phase of his Ph.D. program in instructional design at USA, having received the 2005 Doctoral Student of the Year award in that program. He has also held the position of statistician and database manager for Catholic Social Services.
Bridgette Hill
Dr. Bridgette Hill of Daphne, Ala., assistant professor of human performance and exercise science, holds a bachelor of science from Grambling State University and a master’s in sports science and doctor of sports management from the United States Sports Academy. She holds a teaching certificate in the state of Florida for Special Education k-12, and has experience as a teacher and coach in various sports.
Jane Puckett

Jane Puckett of Mobile, instructor in education, holds bachelor of science and master of arts degrees from the University of Mobile. She has served as an elementary school teacher since 1978 and was selected as an outstanding teacher in Mobile County in 1994. She has taught at Saraland Elementary, Cottage Hill Baptist School and UMS-Wright Preparatory School. In addition, she has served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Mobile since 2004.

Pete Sanchez
Pete Sanchez of Mobile, director of church music and worship renewal program and assistant professor of church music, holds a bachelor of science from Houston Baptist University and a master of divinity with Biblical languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological seminary, where he is currently completing his doctoral studies. Over the past 32 years he has served as youth minister, music director, worship leader, associate pastor, adjunct professor and senior pastor. He also serves as director of worship studies for Integrity Worship Institute with adjunct teaching responsibilities at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va., as well as The Kings College in Van Nuys, Calif.
Linda Fontenot
Linda Fontenot of Daphne, Ala., associate professor of nursing, joined the UM faculty in the spring of 2006. She holds a nursing degree from Charity Hospital School of Nursing, a bachelor of science in nursing from University of South Alabama, and a master of science in nursing from University of Alabama in Birmingham. She has earned doctoral course work in counseling psychology from Auburn University. She has previously taught at UM as a nursing instructor, assistant professor and associate professor. She received the 2003 Spirit of Nursing award from USA, served as a health care provider for Hurricane Katrina evacuees, and was named Mobile County Nurse Educator of the Year and was named to “Who’s Who in Nursing.”
Richard McElhaney
Richard McElhaney of Mobile, assistant professor of nursing, holds a bachelor of science in nursing from William Carey College, a master of science in nursing from the University of Mobile, and a doctor of nursing science from Louisiana State University. He joined the UM faculty in the spring of 2006. Previously, McElhaney served as coordinator of special projects at Knollwood Hospital in Mobile.
