October 31, 2006 UM Expands "Christmas Spectacular!" The University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts (CPA) has expanded its fourth annual “Christmas Spectacular!” to two nights. The popular production, which has frequently been performed for standing-room-only crowds, will run on Tuesday, Nov. 28 and Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 6:45 p.m. at Dauphin Way Baptist Church. The church is located at the I-65 and Dauphin St. intersection in Mobile, Ala. The free concert will feature Christmas selections ranging from the classics to pop performed by approximately 200 University of Mobile musicians, as well as guest performers. CPA performance groups to be featured during the evening include RamCorps, VOICES of Mobile, SOUNDS of Mobile, Shofar, IMPACT, EXIT 13, RamTonz and the University Singers, which is composed of UM’s Worship Choir and A Cappella Choir. Special guests include Mark Harris, the Duncan McCall Pipe Band, and a guest choir from Faith Academy. Solos will be performed by Enen Yu, co-concertmaster of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, on violin; Duane Plash, assistant professor of music at UM, on the organ; and vocalist Melba Brown, associate professor of applied music and director of vocal studies at UM. Dr. Al Miller, senior academic fellow and assistant professor of music, will direct the vocalists; and Randy Davis, assistant professor of music, will direct the instrumental performers.
