University of Mobile one of
‘America’s Best Christian Colleges’

The University of Mobile has been named one of “America’s Best Christian Colleges” for the 11th consecutive year.

The private, Baptist-affiliated university is one of only 137 colleges and universities nationwide receiving the designation.

Institutional Research & Evaluation Inc. selected the schools from a pool of 468 Christian higher education institutions based on which provide the highest educational quality in a Christian environment, according to Lewis T. Lindsey Jr., president of IR&E Inc.

The independent research and consulting organization, which specializes in the recruiting and retention of students for institutions of higher education, compiled the annual listing based on analysis and review of its 17th Annual National College Survey.

The University of Mobile has been included in this national recognition program for 11 consecutive years. The Baptist-affiliated university was founded in 1961 and offers associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees through the College of Arts and Sciences and schools of business, Christian studies, education, nursing, the Center for Performing Arts and the Center for Adult Programs.

To be considered for the list, an institution must be an accredited, four-year school that offers bachelor’s degrees and full residential facilities and dining services. It must have had an entering freshman class in Fall 2006 with a high school grade point average or SAT/ACT score at or above the national average for all freshmen entering Christian institutions of higher education. It must be affiliated with a recognized Christian denomination or be an interdenominational institution that incorporates Christian principles into its curriculum or environment.

Other Alabama schools chosen for the honor were Huntingdon College, Judson College, Samford University and Spring Hill College.
