Scholarship Banquet Scenes and Sayings
The 3rd Annual University of Mobile Scholarship Banquet was a gala evening which raised funds for scholarships and featured inspirational performances by students in the UM Center for Performing Arts. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush received a standing ovation for his keynote address on “America’s Promise,” and UM President Dr. Mark Foley unveiled plans for a student center and plans for the university’s growth and development. During his remarks, Gov. Bush had some special words to share about the University of Mobile. Following are some of his remarks: “This is a really important and a good cause. The monies that will be raised here will expand the reach of the university to ensure that young people who may not have the wherewithal to go to this school will be given a chance to get a quality education and …be able to pursue their dreams and have the chance and the tools to make those dreams come true. Another reason I’m delighted to be here, is…this is a Christ-centered school and they’ll get a Christ-centered education along the way. There’s a really important role in these trying times we’re living in for a high quality Christian education. I applaud the mission of the University of Mobile for what it does.” “My hope is that the next generation will be able to take these timeless principles and implement them in their own lives, their families’ lives, in their businesses or whatever their pursuits are. And I hope some will find a place for public service so that this country, the greatest country on the face of the earth, whose success is directly tied to these timeless principles, will continue to lead the world. My guess is, that with the graduates of the University of Mobile, our future is pretty bright. Your support of their efforts to continue to grow and prosper will make a huge difference.”
