Showcases Student Art on Campus

The University of Mobile is now showcasing the work of two talented art students, Keegan Laycock and Micah Gaston, in Ingram Cafeteria. These are the first of more to come in an effort to showcase more UM student art on campus.

Borat

Borat from the series Complimentary Men of Comedy: Will Ferrell, Jim Carey, and Borat by Keegan Laycock

Laycock’s series, Complimentary Men of Comedy; Will Ferrell, Jim Carey, and Borat, features bold, colorful, realistic portraits of the comedians. Laycock says of his work, “I hope that paintings of them can elicit thoughts of laughter and joy in the viewer and brightens one’s perspective.” The portraits of the three men do create a light, care-free mood in the cafeteria. Laycock says that he is often inspired by entertainers, who through their talents have the ability to evoke various emotions.

Messiah

The Messiah, #1 by Micah Gaston

Showcased also are Gaston’s paintings, which include; The Messiah, #1, God has called us in Christ to Go, and The Delivered. Gaston say that he seeks to connect visual icons with ideas that are expressed in scripture. His work is a hybrid of two styles, Realism and Abstract. “I do not have much of a passion for realism nor Abstract work in their pure forms,” says Gaston.

Coming soon, Nov.26-Dec.7, Lindsey Barrowclough will be presenting her senior visual art exhibition. The exhibition will be held in Martin Hall Gallery on campus and will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
