Yu Presents Recital at University of Mobile Enen Yu, co-concertmaster of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and adjunct instructor of strings at the University of Mobile, will present a recital at the Universityof Mobile on Oct. 2. The free concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Moorer Auditorium in Martin Hall on the UM campus. Yu will perform on violin and will be accompanied on piano by Robert Holm. Yu is also concertmaster of the Mobile Opera Orchestra and Mobile Ballet Orchestra ias well as a string teacher and coach for the Mobile Symphony Education programs. She is a founder and the first violinist of the Horizon String Quartet and performs in chamber music concerts throughout the Gulf Coast. Yu, a native of China, began to play violin when she was seven. At the age of 12, she enrolled the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou. After six years of intensive professional training, she enrolled the most prestigious music school in China, the Central Conservatory of Music, with excellent scores and superior performance. During her study in Beijing, in addition to performing in the China Youth Orchestra, she also performed with many leading professional orchestras including the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, China Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Central Ballet Orchestra. Prior to graduation, she auditioned for and was accepted as the youngest full-time member of the Beijing Symphony Orchestra. In 1998, Yu was invited by Dr. Donald Portnoy, Chairman of the Department of Music, to study with full scholarship at the University of South Carolina where she earned her Performance Certificate of Graduate Study in 2000 and Master's degree in 2001. During her American career, Yu has been a member and rotating concertmaster of the National Orchestra Institute in Maryland and the Texas Music Festival in Texas. She was the concertmaster of the USC Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, and has also played with many other orchestras across the nation, most notably under the baton of Zubin Mehta, David Robertson, and Gerard Schwarz. Yu is a regional and national competition winner. She has performed in master classes with Issac Stern, Sydney Harth, Fredell Lack, and Charles Castleman. Ms. Yu has made solo and chamber appearances along the Gulf Coast from Florida to Mississippi, and has also been a featured artist to perform live on WHILfm public radio. She has been featured in concertos with the USC Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Florida Chamber Orchestra. In February 2004, Ms. Yu performed the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante with world renowned violist Nokuthula Ngwenyama at the Mobile Symphony concert, the first sold-out concert in the orchestra's history. She recently become a permanent resident of the United States as an Alien Artist with extraordinary ability.
