UM Upper Room Dinner Theatre Presents Broadway Thriller

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile’s Upper Room Dinner Theatre opened its new season with a presentation of the Broadway hit, “Wait Until Dark.”

The suspenseful thriller starred University of Mobile students including Amy Parker as “Suzy Hendrix,” Dayna Schaumann as “Gloria,” Philip Searcy as “Mike Talman,” Chase Byrd as “Harry Roat Jr.,” Luke Veazey as “Carlino,” Chad Gilliland as “Sam Hendrix” and Jordan Squires and Kadie McNiel as detectives. Jaime Branham was assistant director.

URDT’s production of “Wait Until Dark” is about Suzy Hendricks, a blind woman who is in turmoil as events unfold around her causing her to become suspicious of her husband. Three con-men weasel their way into her home looking for a cocaine-filled doll while murdering and stealing along the way. The play leads up to an electrifying, breath-stopping final scene.

The Upper Room Dinner Theatre has been described as “one of the hottest tickets in town” and is extremely popular with UM students, staff and faculty, and patrons of the arts all over the Mobile area. It was established in 1991 and students perform in a black box thrust theatre located in Martin Hall on the UM campus. Shows are sold out even before they are advertised.

The Upper Room Dinner Theatre will present “Hello Dolly” and “Crazy For You” as two upcoming productions. “Hello Dolly” will be performed November 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19. “Crazy For You” will be performed March 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and April 1.
