June 16-20, 2008

Spend a magical week at camp learning about music, sharpening your technique and performance skills, and
sharing music with friends. Taught by the enthusiastic, well-trained music camp faculty consisting of UM
music faculty and outstanding regional music educators. Camp offers a comprehensive curriculum designed
to encourage young musicians in the study of music. Instruction in all instruments, including voice, is offered.
Scholarships available by audition.

Purposes of the Camp

  • To inspire young musicians
  • To increase technical proficiency
  • To develop performing skills
  • To expand knowledge of music literature in a variety of instruments

Guest Recitals and Informances

  • Scheduled daily at 12 noon – open to the public
  • Presented by faculty and guest artists

Orientation

  • To be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 from
    1:00-3:00 p.m. in Martin Hall, University of Mobile.
    You may come at any time during these hours –
    orientation takes approximately 30 minutes
  • All fees will be due on or before June 5, 2008
  • Enrollment for the Camp closes June 5, 2008
  • Attendance at orientation recommended due to the
    scheduling of private lessons.
    However, you may complete registration via mail, to
    be received by 5:00 p.m., June 4, 2008

Hours (Monday-Friday)

  • Junior Camp: 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
  • Senior Camp: 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Opening Assembly: 8:30 a.m., June 16, 2008

Entrance Requirements

  • A minimum of one year of disciplined study on a
    music instrument or voice
  • Recommendation by music teacher

Classes

  • Daily classes in music fundamentals
  • Daily chorus, string ensemble, chamber music, band
  • Master classes in all instruments (students should
    bring two prepared pieces for use in a Master Class;
    piano students need two memorized pieces)
  • One private lesson on instrument of choice is
    included in basic camp fee
  • Additional private lessons available upon request
    ($18.00 per half-hour)
  • Improv and jazz – senior camp only
  • Audio Tech basics – senior camp only

  • Outstanding local music educators and performers

Lunch

  • Campers bring a sack lunch with drink

T-Shirts

  • T-shirts with Music Camp logo supplied by
    University of Mobile Music Camp
  • Worn with blue jeans on final day of camp, for
    closing ceremonies

Closing Ceremony

  • June 10, 2008, 12:30 p.m. Public is invited.
    College Park Baptist Church.

  • To reserve a place in the University of Mobile Music Camp, please fill out the registration form on this flyer, include the $20.00 (non-refundable and in addition to basic camp fee) registration fee made payable to the University of Mobile Music Camp and mail to address below. (Students arriving late or leaving early are not eligible for any refund.)

Fees

  • Grades 4-7 (fee for five days): $155.00
  • Grades 8-12 (fee for five days): $175.00
  • No refund of fees after registration deadline

Scholarships

  • Full tuition and partial tuition scholarships are available by audition only. Two pieces of contrasting style, demonstration of technical ability and short interview with judges are required for the audition. Memory is required for pianists and vocalists.
  • Audition application available upon receipt of the registration form.
  • Auditions will be held on May 22, 2008 at the University of Mobile in Martin Hall. Registration deadline for scholarship auditions is May 10, 2008. Auditions begin at 1:00 p.m. and students will be assigned a specific time to report.
  • Singers and instrumentalists must supply their own accompanist or bring their own back-up music with tape/cd player.
  • Audition results announced via mail.
  • Parental permission is required for scholarship audition.
  • Decision of judge is final.
