Three main types of resumes:
- The chronological resume - work history in reverse
chronological order
- The functional resume - summary of experience (use with caution)
- The combination resume - both work history and experience
Five components of a resume:
- Heading: Your name, address, telephone number, etc.
- Objective (optional): A statement that briefly spells out the type
of position or opportunity you are looking for
- Summary (optional): Two or three sentences that sum up key elements
of your background, skills, and attributes
- Experience: Can also be described as professional experience or work
experience, a summary of the jobs you've held and the general responsibilities
and duties performed in those jobs
- Education: Your educational credentials: colleges or universities
attended, degrees earned,etc.
Five tips for better resume writing
- Avoid the first person pronoun.
- Keep sentences short.
- Use plain English.
- Use bullet statements when appropriate
- Go from general to specific when sequencing information
