18th Annual UMobile Summer Music Camp Accepting Applications for Grades 4-11

The University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts is now accepting applications for the 18th Annual Summer Music Camp, which will be held June 13-17 on the UMobile campus. Students in grades 4-11 will sharpen their technique and performance skills, and learn about music from outstanding faculty from the University of Mobile and local music educators and performers.

UMobile Opera Theater Presents ‘Opera on Air’

The University of Mobile Opera Theater will present “Opera on Air” April 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Upper Room Theater in Martin Hall on the university campus. “Opera on Air” is inspired by Menotti’s “The Old Maid and the Thief.” University of Mobile students will treat audiences to a mock radio broadcast featuring a full presentation of “The Old Maid and the Thief” along with selections from the greatest works of 20th century American musical drama, including, “Candide,” “Susannah,” “Sweeney Todd,” and “The Devil and Daniel Webster.”

Church Leaders Invited to Free Conference: ‘Pastors, the Pulpit, & the Moral Crisis of Our Time’

The Christian church in America must take a stand in a nation that is experiencing moral and cultural decline, and church leaders in Alabama can lead the way, according to Dr. Joe Savage, director of the University of Mobile Center for Leadership and the Twelve23 Movement which calls for a spiritual transformation of America. Savage and a group of church, business and civic leaders invite pastors and church leaders of all denominations, as well as the general public, to a free conference in Montgomery on April 30.

Exit 13 Worship Band Shares Good News in Honduras; UMobile Worship Service March 24

As eight University of Mobile students walked through the streets of a Honduran town handing out candy, the town’s residents did not yet know these students had something sweeter to share. But it didn’t take long for the members of Exit 13, a UMobile Center for Performing Arts worship band, to share good news with those they encountered.

CPA To Present 'Saviour' Modern Oratorio

The University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts will present the modern oratorio “Saviour: The Story of God’s Passion for His People” at 7 p.m. on April 19 at Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile. “Saviour” is an hour-long concert that paints a musical portrait of God pursuing His people, from creation through resurrection.

UMobile Professor Trains Athletes Despite Danger

When University of Mobile professor Dr. William Carroll accepted the position of athletic trainer for India’s boxing team in the 2010 Common Wealth Games, he had no idea that by the time he arrived the country would be in turmoil. Instead of a simple athletic training job for the Common Wealth of Nation’s version of the Olympics, Carroll now faced road blocks, food shortages and the threat of bombs which were actually visible over the mountains.

‘Sincere Humility and Gracious Spirit’ Mark Life of Former UMobile Trustee Karlene Frazier Farmer Faulkner

The University of Mobile family mourns the passing of former trustee and longtime supporter Karlene Frazier Farmer Faulkner, who died Wednesday, March 9, at the age of 97. “She was a leader in our community who was an inspiration to others, both by her actions and through her gentle and encouraging spirit,” said UMobile President Dr. Mark Foley.

‘Art of Politics’ Displays Art, Documents from Mobile’s Civil War Past

The University of Mobile’s History and Art Departments have combined forces to present “The Art of Politics: Mobile’s Civil War Past.” The exhibit includes more than 25 hanging pieces as well as 19th-century city of Mobile documents drawn from the resources of the university’s Delaney Historical Reference Collection as well as loans from private collectors.
